Harvard Scientists Think They’ve Pinpointed The Physical Source of Consciousness

Consciousness is generally thought of as being comprised of two critical components – arousal and awareness.

They identified two areas in the cortex that were most likely to play a role in regulating consciousness..

Read the article if you are interested, but, what is fascinating, I think, is that the machinery for the concept of who we are sits in our brain. It is incumbent on us to keep that machinery in top working order if we want to maintain optimum self-awareness.

So, the question is, or should be, “How do we keep our brain healthy”.

Research has shown that people who are more physically active have a reduced risk of memory loss and a lower risk of developing dementia.

My wife and I are very fortunate to be participating in a year-long study being conducted by the University of Sydney, titled “Exercise for Brain Health”. The researchers are trying to find which of three types of exercise are the most effective in promoting Brain Health.

Most research suggests that Brain health is most responsive to multi-factorial interventions which include proper nutrition, exercise, microbiome maintenance, brain training, meditation, sense of purpose and social attachment.
